WHAT YOU CAN DO

All the cruelty out there is enough to make anyone despair, but there are things you can do to make changes:

  1. Don't buy products that have been tested on animals or from factory or fur farms. The only power we really do have in a capitalist society is consumer power. We can refuse to buy products which have either been tested on animals themselves, or which contain ingredients that have been tested on animals. Look for the BUAV cruelty-free logo or go to www.gocrueltyfree.org.
  2. Contact your MP and ask them to sign EDM 1704 which calls for a ban on the use of primates in the U.K. and EDM 92 which calls for a scientific evaluation of animal testing, something which the Labour government promised before they came to power.
  3. Go out and demonstrate. Even though the new 'economic sabotage' laws are designed to stop animal rights protesters having freedom of speech you can still make your voice heard.
  4. Raise awareness amongst the public by distributing leaflets, or do a stall to raise money for an animal rights group or charity.
"For the animal shall not be measured by man. In a world older and more complete than ours, they move finished and complete, gifted with extensions of the senses we have lost or never attained, living by voices we shall never hear. They are not brethren, they are not underlings, they are other nations, caught with ourselves in the net of life and time, fellow prisoners of the splendour and travail of the earth."
